A Cultural Army

An introductory zine cover some of the main ideas and artistic movements behind Chinese socialist realism from 1920s to the end of the Cultural Revolution. The stemmed from an independent study with David Xu Borgonjon where over the course of five weeks, we explored how socialist “realist” art developed around politics and how it was institutionalized. This period of art history is not as widely known or researched so a part of the independent study was to share knowledge of Chinese socialist art history.
